In addition to that wonderful, peaceful feeling of well-being, massage therapy also has definite physiological benefits, which is one of the reasons I love massage therapy. (Please see Benefits of Massage page.) However, the primary reason I love it is that I enjoy helping others be well.
I have been interested in massage therapy for many years, but I've had interests in general health issues for far longer. This first started when I picked up the book Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Nutrition, by David Reuben, M.D., shortly after my first son was born, more than 30 years ago. While this book was primarily about the hazards of sugar, it piqued my interest in health issues, and what we can do to help the body maintain wellness. From that point, I started reading health articles and books whenever I could. After earning degrees in Marketing and Marketing Education, and working in sales for a while, I started massage school about 8 years ago, and I knew I was finally in the right field. Practically every time we learned a new massage modality, I wanted to learn more about it, so I knew I was where I was supposed to be.
I have completed training in a medical massage therapy program which included Swedish, Deep Tisue, Trigger Point, Neuromuscular, Myofascial Release, and other modalities. The training also included instruction in anatomy and physiology, which gave me an even deeper appreciation for the human body, and for the effects of massage therapy. With my two sons grown now, I am devoting more time to helping people be well, and I hope to always be learning. My other interests, besides human health and my family, include music, photography, traveling, gardening, and just being outside in nature.
When the opportunity arose last spring for me to open my own business in yoga and related areas, once again, I thought I must be in the right place at the right time, because this is something I had wanted to do for a while. Now, things have changed and that chapter has closed, but a new one is opening. I am thrilled to still offer massage therapy which helps others to not only feel better but also actually be more well. I am hoping to offer yoga and fitness classes again soon. Thank you and I wish you happiness and wellness!
